01 / The brief
The brief
Brightbeam had designed a new kind of bug zapper: a glowing, saber-style zapper with a high-voltage grid, a ring that draws insects in, a base that lets it work on its own and a head that fits a compatible hilt.
It was launching on crowdfunding, where the video does most of the selling. In under a minute, the film had to show a product nobody had seen before, explain how it works and make people want to back it.
02 / The idea
The idea
Bug zappers haven't changed in decades, so the film opens there, then goes somewhere no bug zapper ad has gone: an armoured hero in an alien landscape, facing giant insects. The Bug Saber arrives like a sci-fi weapon.
From there, the story turns into a product demo without losing the energy: the glowing grid and attraction ring, the 4,000V zap, the head clicking onto a hilt and the zapper set down to work on its own. It closes on the line that sums it up: the most satisfying way to eliminate bugs.
